Dear Friends and Supporters,

I have been remiss in not responding to accusations regarding my business and financial dealings.  This has created confusion and opened the door to false assumptions.  I apologize for the grief this has caused my loyal supporters.  Please allow me to address these recurring issues now.

After you have read this, if you still have questions, please call, email, or come see me in person.  My friends and supporters have a right to answers, and I want to make sure you get them.

IRS

2000: I sold my main company, and the IRS subsequently audited it.  The IRS determined that an amount, in excess of what my company had made, was due them.  I challenged the IRS findings; and after hiring several tax accountants and attorneys, my case against the IRS was proven.  That issue has now been resolved, and we are in the process of finalizing the matter.

VOTER REGISTRATION AS DEMOCRAT

2000:  My wife and I moved to Florida from New Jersey and we obtained Florida Driver Licenses. While applying for a drivers license I also registered to vote and I mistakenly checked the wrong party affiliation.  At that time, I was not politically involved (all that changed with my experience at the Miami VA), and I only voted in major elections. As many of you are aware you do not need your voter registration card to vote in Florida, therefore it was not until about four years later that I discovered I had been mistakenly registered as a Democrat.  As soon as I discovered this, I changed back to the way I had always been registered--as a Republican (view my New Jersey voter registration).  At present, I am a member of the Palm Beach Republican Executive Committee, vice chair of the Republican Presidents Counsel of Palm Beach, a member of the Republican Presidents Counsel of Broward, and president of the Latin American Republican Club of South Florida.

MIAMI VA

2005: I began work at the Miami VA (view VA acceptance letters) and hired subcontractors.  All subcontractors agreed to the ordinary business "pay-when-paid" contract arrangement.  This means that I am not obligated to pay my subcontractors until I receive payment from the government.  After the work began, I complained and voiced objections to deplorable conditions I observed at the VA.  Veterans were being housed in moldy, filthy facilities (pictures below), and treated with unsanitary equipment, similar to conditions later discovered at Walter Reed Hospital.  (You may recall that the Miami VA was in the news last year for using unsanitary tools while performing colonoscopies that led to the spread of HIV, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C among Veterans.  Perhaps if my complaints had been taken seriously in 2005, those Veterans would have been treated with safe, sanitary equipment.)  As a result of my persistent complaints, I fell into disfavor with government officials; and payment for my work has been withheld. At this time, I am still awaiting payment for the work done at the Miami VA Hospital.

2007: I filed a federal lawsuit.  The amount of my claim against the federal government is significantly larger than what is owed to my subcontractors.  I am confident that we will prevail; and as soon as I receive payment, every subcontractor will be paid in full.  I have already made the specific numbers available to the press.

My experience with Veterans at the Miami VA Hospital thrust me into political activism.  I began contacting government officials, including my own congressional representative Robert Wexler, trying to find someone who would intervene on behalf of our Veterans.  I repeatedly encountered either disinterest or resistance.  Because no one else would do it, I have become an advocate for Veterans; and that's why I'm running for Congress right now.

STEVE KANE

2008: I entered into an agreement with Steve Kane to run radio advertisements through the last few months of the campaign.  With a handshake, we agreed that I would pay upon completion and would go live on the air on election day.  After the ads began to run, I was contacted and advised that, contrary to my agreement with Steve Kane, I must pay in full immediately.  In a threatening manner, I was advised that Mr. Kane had the power to trash my name.  I refused to be intimidated, and I refused to comply with demands for immediate payment.  No more ads were aired, and Mr. Kane filed suit.  This case is not over.  Next week I will be filing suit against Mr. Kane for breach of contract.  Another candidate had a similar experience with Mr. Kane.  That candidate chose to simply pay and be done with it.  I feel, however, that I must pursue the matter.

There were several elections that received national attention yesterday and many people are wondering what they mean to us.

First was Virginia gubernatorial.  The Republican  thoroughly trounced the Democrat although the democratic machine and President Obama worked very hard to keep that seat democratic.  With the victory going against Obama, it can be suggested that his coattails are not that big and his policies are not what Americans want.

The race that most resembles our upcoming special election was the New Jersey gubernatorial race.  New Jersey, where I hail from, is a very blue state.  Republican,Chris Christie was the underdog going against a very well funded, incumbent Democrat in John Corzine.  Corzine had Obama come and stump for him 3 times recently and Chris Christie wound up with the victory.  This goes to prove that our race is more than winnable in the economic climate that exists today.

The third race gaining national attention, New York CD-23, is also very important.  That was a strange race where the very liberal, hand picked "Republican", Dede Scozzafava was running against the democrat Bill Owens and an independent, conservative candidate, Doug Hoffman.  Dede Scozzafava wound up dropping out of the race due to overwhelming Republican support for the independent.  When she dropped out, she supported the Democrat, Bill Owen who ultimately wound up winning with a plurality of the vote.  Although Dede Scozzafava dropped out she still received 6% of the vote.  This was most likely due from hard core Republican voters who were not aware of what transpired and voted for her because she had an "R" after her name. What is critical to understand is that Doug Hoffman was not an "independent" or "conservative party" candidate, he is a Republican.

The reason that the results in NY CD-23 are so important is because it really goes to prove that America is a 2 party system. When the Republicans ran a very liberal candidate, they lost the support of all of the Republicans and the grassroots groups saw this as an opportunity to push their own agenda.  The Tea Party movement, which I am a proud part of and have spoken at most of the South Florida events, saw this as an opportunity to push a "non-partisan" agenda and claimed the real Republican, Doug Hoffman, as their candidate.  The problem was, as it always is, that by dividing the Republican Party the Democrat won.

What we need to learn from this is that we need to realize that all of the various groups stem from true Republican principles and that they need to band together to make the Republican Party accountable and strong again.  We must get behind one candidate who can actually win and fight together.  When we present our principles and our platform based on the truth, we win.....period.  When we divide our forces, we lose......period.  We can win CD-19 here in Florida in our special election but we need to do it together.

I look forward to our special election and as the only candidate who has successfully taken on the democratic machine and won; as the only candidate who has a platform that has stood the test of time; as the Republican with the best name recognition; as the only candidate who has proven himself as a true fighter for our children who was willing to fight when no one else would WE CAN AND WILL WIN.  If these elections have proven nothing else, they have proven that our country is not happy with the change that they got and that they will vote for us because we are the change that they were hoping for.

Friends,

Tomorrow in NJ, VA and NY there will be some very interesting political races going on.  They will be a test of President Obama's coattails and they will come under national scrutiny.  However, due to the fact that Congressman Wexler recently announced his resignation, in no small part to an investigation that is ongoing, South Florida will once again become the center of political attention on a national scale due to a special election that will be going on sometime in February or March, 2010.

This special election is one that we are poised to win.  As you all know, our campaign has been tirelessly campaigning for over 2 years, non-stop, in District 19.  We have the right platform and I have the experience debating seated congressmen and taking on the democratic machine to win this election.  In a special election, such as this, voter turnout is key.  Typically, only 11% of registered voters actually vote in a special election.  This would be about 45,000 voters.  When you take that into consideration and add the fact that ours is a very senior district and the Obama administration is pushing a health insurance reform bill that will decimate Medicare.  Democrats are not happy with the direction that our country is heading and they really want a change.  We are that change that they were hoping for.  Our health insurance reform platform, which was published in the Sun Sentinel, fixes health insurance, covers everyone and costs nothing.

We have the support of the greatest grassroots support since the days of the original Boston Tea Party.  That is the support of "the people".  That is what matters most and we can stand up and take our government back.  As hard as I fought to get rid of Congressman Wexler, a corrupt politician, and as hard as I have been fighting for 2 years to get your vote, that is nothing compared to how hard I will fight for you and our children once I am your representative.

This is our election to win, this will be an election where the voice of "the people" can beat the will of the politicians.  Our election will be the greatest test of Obama's coattails and this will be our opportunity to show that those coattails are not big enough to continue to push his radical, socialist agenda.

Make no mistake, this election will be about us fighting against the Obama machine and this election will make national headlines.  Please help us to show our politicians that we are not going to stand for their culture of corruption any longer and that we intend to return our country to her rightful owners.........the people.

Friends,

As you know, President Obama has been pushing his "Universal healthcare" plan.  There have been a lot of people saying many different things about this new healthcare plan.  Therefore, I felt the need to do what our congressmen and women have not done and read all of the healthcare plans out there.  Let me tell you, as you can imagine, it was not easy reading.  I wanted to be able to give you the ammunition (facts) to reply to those that want to know why we oppose the plan.

First, let me state that I do believe that we need to make sure that every LEGAL American citizen has access to the best healthcare system in the world and that it is affordable for everyone.  Let me also state that, after reading the bills that are being considered, if the healthcare plan was a good plan, I would let you know that.  That being said, the proposals set forth in the house (HR 3200) and in the senate are very bad for America for the following reasons:

  1. We simply can not afford it.  The Congressional Budget Office states that even with higher taxes on high income earners and penalties on employers who don't provide coverage, the plan will fall $239 billion short of covering its' cost of over $1 trillion.  That is their best case scenario without the bill being completely scored.
  2. It will not cover everyone.  The Congressional Budget Office estimates that over 17 million people would remain uninsured AFTER this plan is implemented.
  3. You will not be able to shop for or obtain private insurance if you do not have private insurance prior to the bill being passed.  This is somewhat clearly stated on pgs. 16 and 17 in section 102(a)(1)(A).
  4. After a 5 year grace period, all private insurers that are still in business will be required to offer a "qualified health benefits" plan based on government standards.  The problem is whether or not the "government standards" will exclude private insurers. This on page 17, section 102(b)(1)(A).
  5. No new policies will be allowed to be written by a private insurer after the public option becomes law.  Also page 17.
  6. Every five years, the elderly will have to attend a mandatory "advanced care planning consultation" for an "explanation by the practitioner of the continuum of end of life services."  The consultation will be conducted more frequently if a significant change in health condition.including diagnosis of a chronic, progressive, life limiting disease, terminal diagnosis, life threatening injury or upon admission to a skilled nursing or long term care facility.  In other words, if you are old, you will be consulted about what your options will be if you get sick, if healthcare would not be an option (see #7).  This starts on page 425.
  7. Page 501 of the bill starts a section that indicates that $1 billion will be spent on "comparative effectiveness research" which is how the government evaluates relative merits of various treatments.  In other words, rationing.  This is tantamount to the government determining whether or not you are worth getting a particular treatment depending on your prognosis or age.
  8. This plan would allow for government funded abortions.  Since this bill would cover all procedures, abortion is included.  There is no exception for abortion.
  9. Members of congress and unions would be exempt from this plan and not have to be a part of the healthcare plan.  Recently, John Fleming, introduced H.R. 615 that stated that members that vote in favor of a government run healthcare must enroll under the public option.  No democrat would sign on.  If it is not good enough for congress, it is not good enough for us! This is section 3116.
  10. $500 billion will be cut from senior healthcare to help pay for this bill. This will weaken Medicare, an organization already in trouble due to insufficient funds.
  11. Hospitals and private healthcare facilities will not be able to collect money from the government plan unless they are "public" facilities.
  12. Businesses will be fined over 8% of an employee's salary if they do not provide healthcare insurance for their employees.
  13. Individuals that do not have health insurance will be fined an amount that will encourage them to purchase the government plan.
  14. All "people", legal or not, will be covered under this plan and identification cards will be issued.  These identification cards will not be based on social security numbers.

These are some of the proven reasons why I could never support a bill like HR 3200.  These are irrefutable facts, things that our present government does not want our citizens to be aware of, which is why they are trying to pass this bill as quickly as possible.  The more we find out about the bill, the worse it gets.  As I stated above, we need to reform our healthcare system, but this is not the way.  In this case, doing nothing is better than passing this bill.  It will hurt seniors, businesses and families.

Congressman Wexler is one of the biggest supporters of this bill as well as, even worse, HR 676.  Why should he care about our businesses, our seniors or our children in District 19 and Florida, he doesn't even live here.  Please consider helping us defeat this bill and Robert Wexler by contributing to our campaign.  It is only through your support and encouragement that we will be able to elect officials who will do what is best for us, finally.

I am completely amazed and insulted at how politicians view their constituents and the American public in general.  Recently, I had the opportunity to attend a protest at the office of our representative from Maryland, Robert Wexler.

This event was organized by Elaine Laffey and she did a great job. I am very proud of her efforts.  Wexler's people tried to organize a counter protest to protest the protest......I think.  They did have a few retired people show up with signs supporting HR 676.  I was just there to show my support for a supporter of mine for something that she is passionate about, and rightfully so. I did not go as any part of our campaign. No signs and no shirts.  This was about Elaine and HR 676 and the American people.

So, when I arrived I immediately went to "the other side" and asked some questions as to their position regarding this healthcare plan.  Of course, just like our politicians, none of them actually read the bill so they spoke in sound bites that they were probably told by Wexler's office.  Unfortunately, none of them had any facts but they did have a handout that stated reasons why we should support HR 676.  I did take one of the handouts to verify the information.  It actually did state some of the real messages from the actual bill.  With the exception of one doctor who showed up, I was amazed at the lack of respect shown to me by people that looked quite grandfatherly.  The rudeness, the filth and the venom that poured out of their mouths would make a drunken sailor blush and I was embarrassed for any passers by that would have to see an 80 year old man "flipping the bird" to anyone who actually knew the truth and disagreed with him.

OK, now to the meat of this bill.  First, I read the whole bill....twice, just in case I missed something. You know how our president is always on television saying that if you like your healthcare coverage and your doctor, nothing will change and you can keep what you presently have?  That is a complete lie.  Section 104(A) of HR 676 states, "It is unlawful for a private health insurer to sell health insurance coverage that duplicates the benefits provided under this act."  To summarize, your current, private health insurer (Aetna, BC/BS, etc) will not be able to provide you with any insurance except for cosmetic surgery.  Maybe I do not understand the subtle nuances of government legislation but I understand when it says in plain language that it will be made "unlawful" for you to keep what you already have.  These politicians must really think that we are stupid. Or, maybe they figure that, since they don't read the bill, neither will we.

That really is enough for me to kill this bill but I will mention a few more items of interest.  Section 101(a) clearly states that, "All individuals residing in the United States are covered" under this act.  That means that all "illegal" immigrants and visitors will be in the program.  It does not say, "if you want it". Why would anyone want private insurance if they are already in this program and paying for it, whether they want to or not? They wouldn't.  That is the point.  Also in that section it says that they will issue everyone identification cards that will not be based on a social security number.  (TIC)That's good news for all of the illegal immigrants that do not have social security numbers. Do you see a pattern here?

There are many other items that will make you sick thinking about them passing this "healthcare" plan but I want you to read it for yourself.  Let me just conclude with one more little item.  They tout this legislation as an expansion of medicare for everyone.  Medicare, besides being corrupt and government run, costs a little over $10,000 per year for each person covered.  So a family of four would cost the American taxpayer about $40,000.  I guess the $5,000 per year that I pay for my family of four is more than $40,000 per year based on some weird form of "government math".  Maybe that is why our politicians will not strike the bill, although they do estimate that the Kennedy plan will cost $1,000,000,000,000 to cover 16 million people.  Here is the math:  306,000,000 people/16,000,000 times $1,000,000,000,000 = a little over $19,000,000,000.  That is 19 TRILLION dollars, in case your eyes went blurry with all of the zeros.

I am all for affordable health insurance for every "legal citizen" in the United States.  But let's keep in mind that heath insurance is not a right granted to us in the constitution and it certainly is not for "illegal" immigrants. We really need to get rid of Wexler and all of the other politician criminals that currently continue to introduce and pass stupid legislation at the expense of our children's future just so they can buy votes and continue their corrupt ways.

Edward

Recently during an interview, a leader within the Republican Party was quoted as saying, about me, "We support him, the problem is that we can't waste finite resources.  At the end of the day, he is not going to win."  At first, one might think that this statement would be something that would offend me, as the candidate.  It does not.  What I really feel is sadness for a Party....my Party..our Party.  This is the type of defeatist attitude that seems to be prevalent when there is a lack of true leadership. This attitude of "if you don't know how to fix it, say it can't be fixed" is an attitude that fosters losing.  It is an attitude where one tries to look smart by being correct about a self fulfilling prophesy.

Let me say that any fight worth winning is worth fighting for with all of your might.  It may not be an easy fight and it may not be a popular fight but, if it is necessary, you don't give up.  You see, true leaders do not see obstacles as things that make righteous outcomes impossible.  True leaders see obstacles as things that will be overcome on the way to victory.  I have never listened to people when they said that things could not be done.  I felt sorry for them as I found ways to overcome the "impossible".  I am living proof that if you want something bad enough and you work hard enough, there is nothing that you can not do.  I believe this with all that I am and it is what I teach my children and what I tell anyone who will listen.

Over 200 years ago, it was thought of as pure folly for a rag tag group of colonists to attempt to fight one of the strongest and regimented armies in the entire world...the British Redcoats.  The naysayers said that "at the end of the day, the citizens of colonies would not be able to win."  We are all free because true leaders did not listen and rose up to fight the good fight and secure their freedom...our freedom.  To their credit, they did not heed the negative words of insecurity and fear and secured our freedom by "wasting their finite resources."

Only a few years ago, other "leaders" of the Republican Party thought that it would be impossible for a black, inexperienced, ultra-liberal, junior senator from Illinois with a Muslim first name to be elected President of the United States of America. Now, as a nation, we will all pay (quite literally) for the lack of leadership allowing that to happen.

Defeating Robert Wexler is a fight that must be fought and must be won for the citizens of District 19 and for the citizens of the United States.  I did not choose to run for congress in a district where I did not live, where the demographics would be more in my favor.  I chose to fight for my district, my children's district, your district if that is where you live.  I chose to fight the good fight and to undertake the "impossible" task of removing one of the most left wing, corrupt congressmen in our government.  A congressman who thumbs his nose at our constitution and who takes for granted his constituents by not even living in the state that he is supposed to represent.  A congressman, who is being investigated by the FBI, thanks in no small part to our own investigations.  A congressman who has laundered money through his campaign accounts and has been involved in falsifying his FEC reports to hide ill-gotten gains.  A congressman who is more concerned with his own political career than he is with the future of his constituents or the future of the State of Israel.  A congressman who fights for his constituents' votes to only count for ½ of the vote.  A congressman who has close ties to Rod Blagojevich, to the mafia, to pump and dump companies, to criminal elements and to fraudulent bundlers who raise money illegally offshore.

Keep in mind that when our campaign inspires voters to come out to vote for me, they will also be in that booth voting for other likeminded candidates.  Instead of worrying about how to spread around our "finite resources" I would suggest finding a way to get more resources.  One way..get behind good candidates who will fight for you when you are not able or willing to fight for yourself and you will have more resources than you know what to do with.  Stop advertising the Republican brand with a lack of leadership by giving up on fights that need to be won.  I don't want to hear why something can't be done; I want to hear how we are going do it.  If you are not part of the solution; you ARE the problem!

This appears to be the mantra of the new Obama administration every time they get caught with their hands in the cookie jar.  They say that they are going to monitor the new stimulus money to make sure that the companies receiving it uses it responsibly and do not waste it.  After all, it is taxpayer dollars being used.  By the way, shouldn't every American receive shares of all of these companies as collateral or something?

Recently, AIG gave bonuses to some more of their executives for doing such a "great job".  Some of the executives do not even work for the company any longer.  The language was put into the bill by Chris Dodd from Connecticut.  Wait a minute, doesn't AIG have corporate offices in Connecticut?  I am sure that it is just a coincidence.  But, I do wonder who received the most campaign contributions from AIG during the last election cycle?  Let's see, who could that be? That's right, it was Chris Dodd, Mr. Countrywide mortgage deal guy himself.  I am sure that it was just another coincidence.  After all, Mr. Dodd is really tight with Barney Frank and both of them are financial geniuses who swore up and down that Fannie and Freddie were very sound financially, so I am sure that the campaign donations had nothing to do with the language in the stimulus package.  Yeah, right!

Well, at least our government is making sure that France does not get any of taxpayer's stimulus money.  Oops again.  As it turns out, AIG gave $15BILLION to French banks.  I know, I know....that's what AIG does.  It insures banks against loses in investments that were touted as stable by Dodd and Frank.  But that was with private money before.  Now, it is with United States taxpayer money.  Our children's money.  Why doesn't France give AIG some bailout money, I mean stimulus money to bailout their own banks?  Then again, why should they when the United States will do it for them.

Now, Obama says that starting next time our government will make sure that we do not waste any stimulus money.  That's right, there will be a next time because the stimulus plan will not stimulate the economy so Congress is considering, yet, another stimulus.  By the way, that is why they stopped calling it a stimulus package, it is now called something like the American reinvestment, no wait....the American...forget it, I can't keep up.  It is like our government calling "global warming" climate change now because it has been getting colder.

Well, at least our new government came up with a reasonable budget....wait for it..that's right, it is the biggest budget in United States history.  My question is this, why do we need such a big budget if we just spent TRILLIONS of our children's dollars?  I think that, at least, some of the money would have offset what would have been needed in our regular budget.  You really can't blame the government because Timothy Geitner has been working really hard, after all, he is the only guy in his office.  People that are slated to work for him either back out or have too many problems to get appointed to his office.  The Treasury Department is like the Bermuda Triangle of government.

When are "we the people" going to realize that we have to stop electing and re-electing these "politicians"?  We have the power to change all of this but we must use it in order for it to work.  When are we going to realize that our "elected officials" are so in bed with the lobbyists and special interest groups that "we the people" do not matter to them.  They know that we are going to elect them again because that is what we do.  I said it during our last campaign and I am sure that I will be saying it during this campaign, "the only special interest group that should be in Washington, D.C. should be the American people."

Thank you and God Bless the United States of America,

Edward

Remember when you were a child and you got in trouble for doing something stupid and you tried to defend your position by stating the ever popular, "well my friends are doing it."  To which your parents would state, the just as popular, "If all of your friends were jumping off a bridge would you do it too?" You wanted to answer "yes" but you knew that was the wrong answer.  Today I was watching the usual news channels with all of the political pundits going on, as they always do, about the government.  I noticed that no matter what the subject matter there seemed to be a constant answer.  The answer was, "Well, that is what we got when the Republicans were in charge."

Nancy Pelosi recently came under fire for using our armed services as her personal air force.  She was adamant about our government keeping large planes ready for her use.  She also got some heat for trying to take her husband on a trip to Iraq with her.  When the "pundits" were asked about this they replied that this is the same thing that happened when there was a Republican Speaker of the House.

Today, President Obama, behind closed doors, signed our nation's $410 billion spending bill.  This spending bill has over 8500 earmarks.  That is right..over eight thousand, five hundred earmarks.  When Democratic leaders and pundits were asked about all of these earmarks, their response was, "well, 40% of them are from the Republicans."  Stinking less does not mean that you don't stink. By the way, Obama signed this bill despite his promise to end earmarks and make the government more transparent and more ethical.  Nancy Pelosi promised the same thing yet they had to use the Freedom of Information Act to get the information about "Pelosi Airlines".  President Obama should have been a man of his word and vetoed this bill and demanded that all earmarks to be removed.

When many of the members of President Obama's administration came under scrutiny for tax problems, their response was that the Republicans were just as bad.  When Barney Frank came under scrutiny about his complete and thorough buffoonery regarding his responsibilities on the Financial Services Committee, his response was that it was the Bush administration's policies that caused all of the problems.

When Democrats come under fire for anything they have a tendency to blame the "failed polices of the Bush administration".  However, let us not forget that Democrats have been in charge of the House of Representatives since 2006.  Since then, they have set the agenda for bills to be presented on the floor for debate, they have come up with the budget and they have put in the earmarks (not the President).

Now, elected official must do their job, you know the one that we are paying them for.  They need to stop the blame game and do not use the excuse that it is alright for them to continue with their illegal activities, their tax evasion, their paying off special interest groups with political favors for campaign donations, their doing nothing on the taxpayer dollar, their not living in the state that they are supposed to represent, their cavorting with bad people, and all of the other despicable acts.  You know who they are.  This is not "change we can believe in", this is being a coward and doing what they want because all of their friends "are jumping off of bridges."  This is politics as usual, it has to end and we have the power to end it.  We did not do it in 2008, we must in 2010 because these leopards are not going to change their spots.  These times call for real leaders; leaders of business..leaders of men...let's elect them.

May God bless you and the United States of America,

Edward
